Senior Disaster Management Officer - Red Cross

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (the Federation) is the world's largest humanitarian organisation. The Federation has worked alongside the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society for more than 30 years in humanitarian fields including disaster management, with a focus on the cyclone early warning and response programme in the coastal belt, and disaster preparedness and response during natural disasters. Disaster risk reduction and mitigation are heavily emphasised.

The Federation is looking for a suitable Bangladeshi national for the following position in its Delegation's office.


Position: Senior Disaster Management Officer

Duration: One year with possible extension

Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh with extensive travel, mainly within Bangladesh


Duties:

The DM Officer will be the part of Delegation team. He or she will work closely with DM Delegate and other colleagues to assist in disaster management issues related to planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of planned activities, and financial matters. Capacity building and Preparedness, Assessment and Response to disasters will form a significant part of the duties, as will disaster risk reduction and mitigation.


Qualification and Competencies:

Graduate in any discipline from a recognised university, at least 10 years working experience, advance knowledge of disaster management gained from a reputed national/international organisation. Should have proven capacity to write proposals and reports etc Should have good computer skills using standard software, and a high level of competency in spoken and written English.
